The 24th year of the Werner von Siemens Prize begins

Čty­ři­a­dva­cá­tý roč­ník Werner von Siemens Awards for students technical, scientific and medical disciplines and young scientists was declared. As Eduard Palíšek, CEO of the Siemens Group in the Czech Republic, stated at the start of the competition, knowledge and education are the basis of every progress. Siemens wants to show students, young researchers and their educators how important it considers their role in society. Candidates can apply via the website www. cenasiemens. cz do 30. lis­to­pa­du 2021.

The financial rewards that Siemens has distributed among 410 students, researchers and teachers in the last 23 years amounted to 13.4 million crowns. This year’s edition will distribute CZK 900,000 in eight categories, and in the category of the best diploma and dissertation thesis, together with the students, the supervisors will also receive awards.

Announced categories

  1. The most significant result of basic research (individual or research team)
  2. Nej­lep­ší pe­da­go­gic­ký pra­cov­ník
  3. Best diploma thesis (first three places + supervisor)
  4. The best dissertation (first three places + supervisor)
  5. Award for overcoming obstacles in the study (the student is nominated from among the academic staff within the university from the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral studies)
  6. Special award for outstanding quality of women’s scientific work
  7. The best graduate thesis (diploma / dissertation) dealing with the topics of the concept Industry 4.0
  8. The best graduate thesis (diploma / dissertation) dealing with smart infrastructure and energy

In the last year of the competition, representatives of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic received the most awards (7 awards), followed by Charles University in Prague (6 awards).

The twenty-fourth year of the Werner Siemens Award will take place with the support of Siemens Advanta, Siemens Energy and Siemens Mobility, which have become patrons of thematic categories.

The general public can also take part in the nominations – candidates and their work can be nominated via the website, and if the recommended one wins, the nominee will receive a bonus of CZK 10,000.

More about the competition

The Werner von Siemens Award is organized by the Czech Siemens together with important representatives of universities and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, who are also guarantors of individual categories and participate in the evaluation of works. The awards are sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. With its scope, amount of financial rewards and history, the Werner von Siemens Award is one of the most important independent initiatives of its kind in the Czech Republic. In the previous twenty-three years of the competition, 410 students, teachers and scientists were awarded, and over CZK 13.4 million was paid in prizes.
