That’s the future of Telekom’s hardware

At the Connected TV World Summit, Telekom recently presented a blunt look into the medium-term future without media receivers. DIGITAL TELEVISION reported and asked what the short-term hardware plans look like. After all, the MagentaTV Box and the Media Receiver 401 were withdrawn from sale in 2022.

Media receivers and other set-top boxes will play an ever smaller role in the near future, as the Telekom product manager Pedro Bandeira promised at the summit mentioned above. Until then, however, Telekom is pursuing a clear plan that should be based on two devices, as a company spokesman has now confirmed to DF:

„We are pursuing the goal of consistently further developing the MagentaTV user experience across all platforms and are guided by the respective market developments and usage trends. The best MagentaTV product experience today is provided by Telekom’s own hardware – with the MagentaTV One or the MagentaTV Stick.„

Focus on MagentaTV Stick and One

Media receiver models and MagentaTV Box Play will not be dropped by Telekom (for the time being).

For existing customers, however, the final sentence of the Telekom statement is likely to be even more important. It says: “There are no plans to discontinue sales of MagentaTV hardware.Accordingly, at least for the time being, one of the two devices already mentioned (One and Stick), the MagentaTV Box Play and the media receiver models 601 (flagship) and 201 (second receiver) existing Telekom line-up.

There is also the MagentaTV remote control for Apple TV.
