Which electricity provider is right at the forefront of customer favor? Our customer barometer provides answers.

Many employees performed their work from home again this year due to corona – sometimes for several months in a row. As a rule, the employer takes care of the office equipment; however, electricity costs are mostly a private matter. Particularly in times of rising energy costs, a look at the household electricity bill can be doubly worthwhile – on the one hand to compare prices, but on the other hand to identify potential savings. But which electricity provider is currently doing the best job when it comes to price / performance, customer service, environmental protection or grid stability?

To find out, in collaboration with the publisher’s Institute for Technological Issues (FiFT), we surveyed 1,064 electricity customers who signed their contracts online. Seven providers are represented in our study this year. Unfortunately, we could not consider some providers because the minimum number of cases was not reached.

Evaluation in four categories

For our electricity supplier customer barometer, we have divided the questions into four categories: customer service, brand / provider, tariff & billing and online service. Various factors play a role in each category. When it comes to customer service, for example, we not only want to know how friendly the employee was, but also whether the problem was solved at the first attempt. At the brand / provider we asked, among other things, which image the participants attest to their provider and whether they would generally recommend him to others.

In the tariff & invoice category, besides assessing price and performance, aspects such as duration, contract termination or clarity of the invoice are also important. In the case of online service, we ask about factors such as user-friendliness of the online portal, transmission of consumption values ​​(meter reading) or changes to personal data.

The final result is thus composed of the ratings of the individual categories. As usual, the data were evaluated according to our special score, the WPS. You can see how the providers perform in detail in our graphics.
