Textile manufacturers are satisfied with their export performance – Dünya Newspaper

Ahmet Öksüz, President of Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association (İTKİB), stated that they have a target of 15 billion dollars in the textile industry this year, “We closed the year 2021 with a record. 13 billion dollars export was a record in the history of the Republic for our industry. We started this year well. “We have left behind. There is an increase of nearly 20 percent. As the textile industry, we set ourselves a target of 15 billion dollars this year. I hope we will achieve it, the numbers show it. It was a good start. We can continue this,” he said.

“There is serious interest in fairs”

Stating that they focused on fairs, Öksüz said, “The fairs were suspended for a long time during the pandemic period. We gave a serious impetus to our industry with the Istanbul and New York fairs. We continue to participate in other fairs. There was a serious interest in the fair in Istanbul. We will turn the second one into an international fair in September. “We will do it in a three-fold area. We have programs for trade and procurement committees,” he said.

Noting that employment is very important, Öksüz said, “We increased the employment to 1 million 200 thousand. Our employment increased by 20 percent in textile and ready-made clothing. We also passed 500 thousand in textiles. We attach importance to education. We supported textile engineering departments. We increased the quality.”

Drawing attention to the difficulties experienced in raw materials, Ahmet Öksüz said, “Foreign trade is a whole, when we evaluate it together with imports, we need to do something in that area as well. It is important for our country’s economy that we import less. Textile and ready-made clothing is one of the sectors with the highest foreign trade surplus.”

“We need to be one step ahead in sustainability”

Referring to the importance of sustainability and green economy, Öksüz made the following assessment: “It is more important to make more environmentally friendly production with renewable energy, by consuming the world less. They no longer buy non-environmental products. There is such a trend in the world. Recycling is very important. Used clothes are opened, they are turned into yarn and the fabric is woven. The sector has also made a lot of investments in this field. We must not lag behind the trends. We must always be one step ahead in terms of sustainability. Our textile industry, which is very dynamic in these matters, will make the best use of this year. We are pushing to be among the top 3 suppliers of the world. We will see this together in the upcoming period, and the winner will be both our country and our industry”.
