Tears of joy: How the second day of the referendum passed in Rostov

One of these points was opened at the Donetsk State Technical University.

– We provide organizational assistance to representatives of foreign election commissions to conduct voting. An exit point was set up at DSTU, as teachers, schoolteachers and doctors who are undergoing retraining in Russia and improving their qualifications expressed their desire to vote here. With the help of the “hot line” residents of Donbass, who live in nearby areas, were sent here. They can make their choice from 10.00 to 18.00, – a representative of the CEC of the Rostov region told RG.

Even holders of Ukrainian passports can receive voting ballots, the main condition is to be a resident of Donbass, Kherson or Zaporozhye regions. There were quite a lot of people wishing to make their choice, there were small queues at the places of issue of ballots and voting booths. However, the queues did not unnerve people, but on the contrary, they turned into impromptu “chains of good mood.” People congratulated each other, exchanged news and plans for the future and did not hide their emotions – some women even cried.

– These are tears of joy. We have been waiting for this day for almost nine years. Today we have a new life. For all of us residents of Donbass, everything that is happening is not just a procedure for joining Russia, but an opportunity to live freely. We will never be able to live in Ukraine – they have different values that are not acceptable to us. The referendum is a dignified old age for our parents and a bright new future for children,” said Irina Starukovodi, a resident of Donetsk.

– Since 2014, the inhabitants of Donbass have suffered many misfortunes, but they believed that the day would come when we would return to Russia. From February to April, he participated in the liberation of Mariupol, and my comrades and I believed that the referendum would definitely take place. On behalf of all my colleagues and comrades-in-arms, I declare that we see our future only with Russia, – said Sergey Grishchenko, doctor of medical sciences, professor at the Donetsk National Medical University.

Field polling stations for the referendum in the Rostov region will work in all corners of the region, and on September 27, 135 polling stations will open for voting. On this day, 40 stations will operate in Moscow and the Moscow region, 40 in the Krasnodar Territory, and five each in the Crimea and St. Petersburg.
