Tax authorities and GNR seize 30 cars and 520 liters of fuel on the roads – Portugal

Inspections on the roads by the GNR and the Tax and Customs Authority (AT), on Wednesday, resulted in an arrest for lack of driving license and the seizure of 30 cars, 520 liters of fuel and 0.754 grams of lime.

Called “network” operation, a network in the tax and customs areas, this joint action aimed at the inspection and intensive control of goods in circulation, on the main axes of the national road network, with preferential targets for goods vehicles in general and light vehicles.

In a statement released this Thursday, the GNR and AT explain that the objective was to control transport and invoicing documents for goods subject to Special Consumption Taxes (IEC), namely Tax on Petroleum Products and Energy Products (ISP), Tax on Tobacco (IT) and Tax on Alcohol and Alcoholic Beverages (IABA) and VAT, as well as the regular condition of foreign-registered vehicles in circulation in the national territory.

As a result of the action, 5,723 vehicles were controlled, resulting in the collection of 351 reports for tax and customs infractions by the AT and GNR, 418 reports by the GNR for various infractions, namely road and environmental legislation and possession of narcotic products, and detention for lack of a legal driver’s license.

The operation also resulted in the seizure of 30 motor vehicles that were circulating irregularly, 20 liters of colored and marked diesel, 500 liters of road diesel, 336 cans of soft drinks and 0.754 grams of lime.

In this joint national action, 385 inspectors from the AT participated, from 18 finance departments, two operational divisions of the central services, nine customs and six customs delegations, and 444 GNR soldiers from 20 territorial commands from all districts and autonomous regions of the Azores and Wood and the tax action unit.

“Aware of its deterrent and preventive effect, the Tax and Customs Authority and the Republican National Guard will continue and intensify this type of actions, in the context of combating the shadow economy and the practices of Fraud and Tax Evasion”, they announce in the statement.
