TAP has already done the math for the final amount to be returned by Alexandra Reis, the former administrator of the airline who left in 2022 with compensation of 500 thousand euros. The information was revealed by the Minister of Infrastructure who has been heard for seven hours in the parliamentary inquiry committee, the longest hearing to date.
“The repayment of Alexandra Reis’ compensation is being dealt with”, began by explaining João Galamba in response to the deputy from the Liberal Initiative, Bernardo Blanco. “There were some procedural doubts, but the information I have is that TAP has already consolidated the information and has already determined the value”, he revealed.
More than two months have passed since the Government announced the resignation of the former CEO and former “chairman” of TAP, on March 6, instructing the airline to recover part of the compensation of 500 thousand euros. At issue are the conclusions of the report by the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) which considered the agreement of his departure illegal for violating the statutes of the public manager which does not provide for exits by mutual agreement.
The latest information on the subject had been revealed by the director general of the Treasury and Finance, Maria João Araújo, on 3 May. The official had assured the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry that she had already informed TAP that it was up to the company to calculate the amount to be returned by the former administrator of the airline.
On April 11, Manuel Beja, the then chairman of the board of directors of TAP, revealed that the process of returning the compensation was dependent on Finance due to the settlement of accounts with the Tax Authorities.
When heard at the CPI, Alexandra Reis reiterated that, despite disagreeing with the conclusions of the IGF report, she is willing to return the compensation of 500 thousand euros (312 thousand net euros). In that sense, since then, her lawyers had already made contact with TAP in this regard.
