Today, Minister of Agriculture Jelena Tanasković met with representatives of cold stores, RTV reports. At the meeting, there was a discussion about the current situation on the raspberry market, as well as the topic of the current product buying season.
Tanasković emphasized that a new working meeting is expected on Monday, June 12. She added that negotiations are underway to review in detail the situation regarding the unpaid raspberry yield from the previous year. State aid to this sector in the form of a credit line with a pledge in unsold raspberries will be considered. With this move, the state would settle debts owed to raspberry growers from the previous production period.
The discussion about the price of raspberries has been a key topic in this productive sector of agriculture for the past few weeks. At the beginning of this week, the company “LUKOWA FOOD DOO” made a decision on the price of fresh raspberries in the amount of 200 dinars/kg. Early reactions from manufacturers were negative. From the old harvest, raspberry growers have between 20,000 and 25,000 tons of this fruit left. Representatives of the Association of Small and Cooperative Refrigerators and Raspberry Producers “Our Fruit Serbia” have an agreement with representatives of the state to secure a loan that would help pay for last year’s crop. The agreed price is 2 billion dinars.
We will remind you that in the period August 2022-March 2023, Serbia exported between 75,000 and 80,000 tons of raspberries. Compared to those figures, the import of raspberries, either fresh or frozen, amounted to 4,427 tons in the amount of 19,448,000 euros.
Tanasković stressed that the imperative of the state is to protect primary producers and find the best solutions for problems in production and on the market. For weeks now, the minister has been reacting in a timely manner and negotiating directly with all representatives in several sectors of agriculture. She also showed her commitment by visiting Ivanjica because of the situation with flooded areas in Western Serbia. The value of the damage caused by rainfall and floods was assessed on the spot, and the relevant ministry confirmed that it will provide assistance to vulnerable farmers. The monetary amount of the aid in question is 95 million dinars.
