System UI Tuner offers customization of the status bar

Android 6 delivered a new hidden feature that Google called “System UI Tuner”. The hidden settings mainly offered customization of the status bar, with the ability to hide optional icons.

The method for activating “System UI Tuner” has since been blocked – but the settings remain. A small app i Play Store called “Statusbar Icon Hider” simply acts as a shortcut to “System UI Tuner”.

The app works on a Pixel with Android 12, but there is a risk that some manufacturers have removed “System UI Tuner” completely in their interfaces. Virtually all icons can be hidden from the status bar, while some can be customized. For example, you can add seconds to the watch and control when the battery percentage is displayed.

The icons are practical and are there for a reason, but some can be hidden by those who prefer a cleaner and more stripped-down status bar.
