Synesthesia 2021 – an artistic experience

The pilot episode of Synesthesia, the cultural project of the Creative Industry Association, is over. In short, it meant 5 days in which 14 artists brought art to the public on 5 stages, in various and contemporary forms.

The interactive video installation in the center of Iași, the contemporary dance workshops, the performances at the Palace of Culture and the House of Museums, the modular synthesizer workshop took place with hundreds of physical participants and thousands of online spectators. Synesthesia brought a new cultural product, in the form of a collaboration between 9 artists from the country, who created in Iași the performance “We loved each other in a pandemic”.

„[…] I had no idea how special and different the experience of singing could be in a space with such a great echo, in which the sound walks through the columns, floats high and returns late from the distance of the long corridors. It was magical! Thanks to the entire team who diligently set up this synesthesia of ours, in the perfect location. We also thank the audience from Iași who hugged us with congratulations. It means a lot to us to feel this closeness, to feel that what we do achieves its goal. To be repeated … ”, he says Ana Cristina Leonte, soloist of the performance “Heart Cave”, from the Palace of Culture).

“Synesthesia reminded me once again of the reason I chose to do this job. We managed to raise the performance in 3 hours with a team we only partially knew. Why did I succeed? Because there was no pride, because all the artists and the whole technical team were in the same mind, and the result was one to match. That’s exactly how I imagined doing this job when I dreamed of becoming an actor. […] Following this experience and collaboration with Synesthesia, we set out to carry on the poetry performance “We fell in love with the pandemic”, to develop it and to walk with it around the country and, why not, over borders. ” Justinian Turcu, actor, performance “We loved each other in the pandemic”.

“There are times in an artist’s life when the planets align somehow and everything happens the way you want it to.… That’s how our experience at Synesthesia was, which seemed like a big challenge at first (to compose such a complex performance in such a short time), it proved to be a great joy. […] It was a dream, short, but so beautiful, and for that I want to thank everyone and thank Iași for receiving us so warmly. Stay tuned, will it follow !? ”

Marius Ursache aka Spacenoodles (interactive modular synthesizer workshop – Spacenoodling):

“Apart from the fact that it was an honor to be in a line-up of much better artists, I had a delicious audience, who played with spaghetti strings and made music, better than I do in 90% of cases. So when’s the next edition? “

Eduard Draude (artist and organizer) summarizes:

“The audience from Iași enthusiastically embraced this type of pilot cultural event that invites artists and their creations to merge with the spectators, in a connection beyond the stage. Through the interactive art installation, through the two performances and two workshops, all held in different spaces and days, the Synesthesia event felt almost like a necessity in existing, and this makes us very happy and encourages us to continue it. let’s raise it. […] Thank you to all those who contributed to the realization of the synesthesia, both to the artists who seem to come from enchanted worlds, and to those behind the curtain, magicians that we will talk about on other occasions. And last but not least, the headline made you feel like you’re in for a treat.

Synesthesia is a project developed in 2021 by Creative Industry Association, co-financed by the City Hall of Iași and supported by Showberry.
