The Swedish prose writer Alex Schulman draws a picture of the reunion of three brothers with laconic and sharp strokes, when after a long alienation they return to the former family summer house by a remote lake. Twenty years ago, there was a drama that left indelible marks on family life. The brothers only find out about the desire of the mother who passed away to scatter her ashes in this place, instead of burying her next to her already dead man, and this event ignited a long muted passion.
The narration is solved in two planes of time – the plot of the present is revealed, receding into the past every two hours, thus achieving a peculiar flow of the text. The alternating episodes of the memory allow us to gradually glue the portrait of the family in the distant summer before the fateful event that shook the relationship between mother and father and brothers to the ground.
