326 students of Syedpur Model High School in Enayetpur, Sirajganj were not given free textbooks for the current academic year on the pretext of not paying the session fee. Students’ studies are being disrupted due to lack of books. Extreme anger has arisen among students and parents for not giving books. The situation was reported at the school on Thursday afternoon.
According to locals, there are about 500 students of Syedpur Model High School in Jalalpur Union, which was devastated by the Jamuna eruption. After the annual examination, the students are informed that if they want to take a New Year book, they have to bring a session fee of Rs. 500 first. Due to the delay in paying the money, 95 students of class VII, 141 students of class VIII and 90 students of class IX were not given books on the instructions of the school headmaster Abdul Hamid.
According to Akash, a seventh-grade student of the school and Ariful Islam, a ninth-grade student, the head sir said books would not be given without money. Why pay for free books. I am going back home empty handed as I have not paid.
Students’ guardians Ravi Mollah, Shahed Ali and Jamela Khatun said that the headmaster Abdul Hamid was not following the Prime Minister’s order to distribute free books. He has made it clear that he will not give the book if he does not give that money. Many students are going back without getting books. There is no one to watch it.
When asked, the headmaster of the school Abdul Hamid said, “It has been said to open the account in accordance with the government rules and withdraw the money before the session fee.” New books will be handed over to those who have not received the books soon.
Shahjadpur Upazila Secondary Education Officer SM Shahadat Hossain said the headmaster has been asked to distribute books quickly. Even then, the reason for the delay in distributing books will be investigated by going to school on Sunday.
Shahjaduzha, UNO, Shahjadpur, said everyone was instructed to hand over the books to the students free of cost. If anyone fails, action will be taken.
