Strikes Over, Beef Traders Start Selling Again in the Market

Suara.com – The Daily Chairperson of the Indonesian Meat Traders Association (APDI) Asnawi said that beef traders began to trade again in the market. So, people are now starting to buy beef at the market again.

According to him, beef traders have begun to return, because there has been an agreement regarding prices at the importer level.

He said, the return of these beef traders was progressing from the strike plan which lasted three days.

“Since yesterday I have been trading, after an appeal from me. Then the decision of the trader to take only 3 days off if my request is on the 2nd day, the commitment to the position is 3 days, on the 2nd day I give an appeal, on the 3rd day I have been selling,” Asnawi said when contacted Suara.com, Sunday (24/1/2021).

According to him, there is a price agreement between traders and importers after government intervention.

Actually, there is no common ground in the price agreement. But after negotiating again there is a middle ground.

Initially, traders at the importer level asked the price of carcass beef to return to its original price of Rp. 87,000 per kilogram.

However, he continued, importers objected to the traders’ requests, because of the increase in Australian beef prices.

Finally, after negotiating again, there is a middle point where the price of beef at the merchant level drops from IDR 98,000 per kilogram to IDR 94,000 per kilogram.

“The price agreement was the merchant’s first bid to ask for a return to the original price of Rp. 87,000, but the importer didn’t want to. Because the buying price went up from Australia. So, in the end, how much the merchant bid, Rp. 90,000, was also the importer’s objection, which in the end was the last offer. Rp. 94,000. So the increase from the original price, the increase is Rp. 7,000 per kilogram, “he said.

Previously, the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Meat Traders Association aka DPP APDI had appealed to beef traders to return to trading today, Friday (22/1/2021) after the traders’ guidance was met by the Ministry of Trade.

“That the government is serious about following up on the letter delivered by the DPD APDI management and fulfilling all the demands requested,” said the Daily Chairperson of the DPP APDI Asnawi to Suara.com, Friday (22/1/2021).

Asnawi said, the DPP APDI had held a coordination meeting with the Ministry of Trade from Tuesday, January 19, 2021, to Wednesday, January 20, 2021.

From the meeting, he said, the government was serious about following up on the letter sent by the DKI Jakarta APDI management.
