Suara.com – “Here, sir!” a woman in her 30s raised her hand when we had just entered the courtyard of the famous Cuisine Depot on Jalan Godean, Sleman last Thursday (4/5/2023).
She is Susanti Ratna Sari, owner and founder of UKM QueenLav by Susan, a micro business which turns six this year.
“At that time, there was no thought that this business could grow and last for years. Understandably, the first time I tried to make cooking creations, I used makeshift tools and materials,” said Susan, opening the conversation.
Her business name, said Susan, was inspired by her love for her child. “Queen love by Susan. It was inspired by my son, mas,” said the woman who runs her business from her home in Godean, Sleman.
Reckless capital, using severance pay and family support. Susan finally founded QueenLav, a simple culinary business that initially only targeted those closest to her.

“When I resigned from being a BRI employee, I felt like opening a business. I tried to sell, it turns out my product is well received. At that time, friends from BRI often bought. It suits my cooking,” he said.
Starting from the ‘warm welcome’, he then began to receive many orders. His business became even more famous after many of his buyers, who were former colleagues at BRI, gave positive comments and spread this to others.
Recently, however, the name QueenLav has been heard by more and more people, so Susan admits that she has received various orders for food creations, from tumpeng, boxed rice, shallot sauce, pete sauce and so on.

“It’s extraordinary, I got an order from the Sleman DPRD. There is also the Department of Education, Dispora and so forth. Until now, they are still our customers,” said Susan, recalling when she started developing QueenLav.

When the world was hit by the Corona Virus outbreak, many businesses were forced to go out of business due to economic pressure. Uniquely, this did not happen to QueenLav. Susan admits, her business is actually getting more and more orders.
His business also received support from BRI. Susan admitted that she also gained a lot of knowledge from participating in seminars and various series of events held by BRI.
“I learn a lot. I got a lot of knowledge from BRI,” he said, adding that he last attended the agenda for the BRILiaN MSME BRIncubator workshop in 2022.
Business Challenge
His efforts are not always smooth. On several occasions he also experienced the difficulty of developing QueenLav in the midst of high business competition.
“I was clueless. When other UMKM friends advertise on the internet, all kinds of branding, I can’t. Photos are what they are,” he said.
At that time, he only believed that as long as he never gave up and focused on the goal of continuing to develop his business, nothing would be impossible.

Now, Susan can enjoy the hard work she has been fighting for since resigning from her job in 2017.
From his business, he even managed to collect money to buy a house in Wonosari.
“Only from this business, I can buy a house in Wonosari. In fact, before resigning, it was very difficult to buy a house. Starting as a fad, it turned out to be a way of fortune,” he said.
QueenLav’s turnover, said Susanti, is around IDR 4 million a month. Even so, he admitted that he had earned more than IDR 9 million in a month from his business. The nominal is inseparable from the high number of orders received.
The reason is, when orders were high, he admitted that he had received orders for up to 500 rice boxes in a day.
“Last 2021 fasting month. As usual, orders for takjil are high, plus during the pandemic, so people prefer ordering rather than making their own,” explained Susan.
However, he focused on developing the business he founded. Susan never forgot her duty as a mother. This is what made him decide not to open an online store.
In fact, the potential for his business to grow faster is very wide open if he wants to open an online store. Until now, Susanti has only developed her business, one of which is through Instagram with an account called ratnasari.shanti.
“Online stores must always be ready. Meanwhile, I want to have times when I am with my family, especially my children. I also want to have quality time with my family and of course I also don’t forget my duties as an educational park for my children,” he said.
Not only for himself, the business he started was also a source of livelihood for his two employees.
“Neighbors and students,” said Santi explaining the two employees who are now like family to her.
Now, his business has received MUI halal certification. Not only that, he also has teaching certification for cooking from various institutions.
For entrepreneurs who are just starting their businesses, Santi advises them to continue cultivating a sense of never giving up within each one of them. In addition, according to him, the key to success is consistency.
“Consistent. Even though no one ordered, no one bought, we must remain consistent in introducing our products on various platforms. Can WA status, Facebook, Instagram, “he concluded.
