Today, on the occasion of the Statehood Day of Serbia, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, presented decorations to deserving individuals and institutions.
At the ceremony in the Palace of Serbia, Vučić said that by awarding state recognition, he wanted to say “thank you to the heroes of our time who lived not only for themselves, but also for our people and country.”
“Honor is not given for what someone has achieved, but for what someone has given. That is why we are here today to pay tribute to those who so selflessly gave to this country and our common future, but also to those foreigners who supported this country and who were with it, “said Vucic.
He added that the names of the people who receive recognition today will never be forgotten, but will be inscribed in the eternal book of parts and courage and will be a signpost for all who dream of great deeds.
The President thanked everyone who celebrated Serbian culture and art around the world, the doctors who fought for their lives every day, and some lost their lives in that fight.
Among the winners who received decorations at the Palace of Serbia are director Emir Kusturica, frontman of the group “Fish Soup” Bora Djordjevic, as well as Russian sculptor Aleksandar Rukavishnikov, author of the monument to Stefan Nemanja.
During his address, Kusturica jokingly said that “it was never easier to get a decoration” and that he always imagined the medal on the lapel of a warrior’s uniform, and that he received recognition while sitting, as he says, locked in a mountain with bears, wolves and some tourists. .
