Spotify will have music without loss of quality

Streaming service Spotify has announced a Hi-Fi plan. It was announced at the Stream On event.

Hi-Fi tariff will allow you to listen to music in audio format without loss of quality. For uncompressed formats (like WAV), the stream width is 1411.2 Kbps, and for compressed formats (like FLAC), it is about one and a half to two times less. Spotify currently plays tracks in the OGG file format with a maximum bit rate of 320 Kbps. Compressed music hardly differs from uncompressed music by ear, the difference can only be seen on the spectrogram by the cut high frequencies.

At the Stream On event, it was said that the Hi-Fi tariff will appear only in some countries (which ones were not specified). The uncompressed audio format is available only in a few music services – for example, Tidal and Amazon Music (Apple Music and Yandex.Music do not have it).

Several premium Spotify subscription options are available in Russia: RUB 85 per month for students, RUB 169 per user, RUB 219 for two and RUB 269 for a family of up to six. How much a Hi-Fi subscription will cost and whether it will appear in Russia is still unknown.
