With the Logitech Scribe you can easily digitize a whiteboard and ensure that the remote participants are also ‘first rank’.

Quite a few questions have been asked about how the Scribe works. Brinkers sits down in front of it and picks up the device. He says that the device has been specially developed to give participants in a video meeting the same experience as what happens in the physical environment. The participants of the meeting see what is happening on the whiteboard and the presenter is shown transparently. You can of course set the degree of transparency. By choosing standard interfaces, the Scribe is recognized by your computer as a webcam and you can use it in many different programs; even in Windows’ default camera app. All you need is a USB connection; the Scribe works via the standard USB/UVC protocol.

Digital participants in a session with a Scribe cannot of course modify the information on the physical whiteboard and if they want to point out something, it will have to be done verbally. The big advantage of the Scribe is that the device digitizes a physical whiteboard. So you can use it in educational or business environments. Participants do not need to install any special software; Teams and Zooms recognize the device as a content camera and that works the same as the presentation mode with which you show a PowerPoint, for example. The speaker is switched off and then the whiteboard comes into view. This way you can use both Powerpoint and the Scribe in one session, by switching between your whiteboard and your presentation. Because this smart solution works like a camera, it doesn’t use more bandwidth than with a regular webcam.


If you have multiple users with a Scribe, that’s no problem. Logitech is still exploring the possibility of combining multiple cameras in one physical space. The device has no special function for taking minutes: for that you have to use other software with which you take a screenshot or recording. The Scribe also offers no options for a joint digital whiteboard. Brinkers: “Zoom has a built-in function for this and solutions are also available for Teams.” The users have to adopt such a solution; the Scribe digitizes an ‘analog’ whiteboard with a maximum size of 2 by 1.2 metres. Because the intelligence is incorporated in the Scribe itself, no additional software or cloud services are used. The information is therefore not distributed by Logitech. You only need software once to calibrate the Scribe.

The device has been specially designed for recording meetings, which means that you are not bothered by annoying light. By hanging the Scribe above a whiteboard, you get a perfect view of the information that is being shared. The arm of the camera could come into view, but the built-in AI prevents this. The same AI also ensures that sunlight or other things do not disturb the image for the participants. So you benefit from a tight picture. The person who writes is filtered out by the software, so that participants can fully focus on the shared information.

Many questions have been asked about the other options for visualizing a meeting. The Scribe is a solution for working with a whiteboard. To achieve good sound and visualize a complete room, the company has an extensive range of conference equipment.
