Sponsored by the Telekom Foundation: This is how the city of Bergheim wants to promote media skills

The city administration wants to introduce children and young people to digital media under the name “Medien.Werkstatt.Bergheim”. The media workshop is funded by the Deutsche Telekom Foundation’s “I can do something!” Initiative. Part of the project are the Open Doors Working Group, the urban and free child and youth centers in the district town and mobile youth work. The city is a patron.

The Juze-Mitte am Chaunyring, the Juze4Teens in Oberaußem, the Checkpoint in Glessen, the Juze TOT and the kids club in Ahe as well as the children and youth center in Quadrath-Ichendorf will take part.

Bergheim: Employees should also learn

The city expects the media workshop to be a “makerspace”, a space in which children and young people can familiarize themselves with modern technology. Other network partners could also contribute. Above all, it should be about imparting media skills, both for children and young people and for the employees in the respective facilities. The administration also hopes for new creative processes that promote the participation and integration of young people in their respective environment.

The plan is to purchase digital studio equipment to record videos, podcasts and songs, among other things. There should also be a 3-D printer. An open day is to take place at the end of January. A digital information platform on the subject is also in the works. Further information is available in Juze-Mitte from Jörg Weigang, [email protected], 02271/65055.
