Prague – The Sparta footballers lost at home in the opening match of the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League with Monaco 0: 2. The score was opened in the 37th minute by Aurélien Tchouaméni, who subsequently complained about the racist cries of some fans. Kevin Volland added the second goal of the guests who played the first competitive duel of the season in the 59th minute. Revenge in Monaco is on the agenda next Tuesday.

Sparta, which eliminated Rapid Vienna in the second round, was last introduced in the main phase of the millionaire competition in 2005/06. She has been qualifying seven times in a row since then. Monaco last played the basic group of the Champions League in the 2018/19 season. In the next two years, the cups did not start.

The winner of the double match will advance to the final play-off, in which he will face either Genk or Shakhtar Donetsk. The loser has a certain group of the European League.

Sparta was driven forward by 10,533 spectators, although Letná may have been full under certain conditions.

The third team of the last season of the French league initially threatened from rapid counterattacks. However, Golovin fired inaccurately before the penalty area and Martins’ goalkeeper Nita managed to finish.

The home team threatened for the first time after 20 minutes of the game, but Panák directed Dočkal’s center to the front bar outside the three bars. Martins, on the other hand, overshot after Polidar slipped. On the 23rd minute, Hložek found himself on the biggest Spartan opportunity in the whole match, who headed close to Wiesner’s pass.

In the 37th minute, after Golovin’s corner kick, Tchouaméni took the lead, disengaging from Hložek. The author of the goal took place during the celebration around the Spartan “boiler”, from where the cups flew to the area. Monaco players, including coach Kovač, complained to referee Oliver about the racist behavior of the spectators towards the dark-skinned player Tchouamén.

The broadcaster warned the home supporter that if the racist insults were repeated, there was a risk that the match would end. After about a three-minute break, the game continued.

Monaco immediately rushed to increase the lead, but Hancko inserted a stopper into Fofan’s sharp blow from the edge of the lime.

Monaco added a second shot in the 59th minute. Volland did not beat Nita at first, but the alternating Diop overtook Sáček in the header fight and returned the ball to the German national team, who was not wrong for the second time.

Pešek tried to correct the score with a long-range shot, but the goalkeeper Nübel intervened in time. On the other side, Nita stopped Jakobs’ escape. The substitute Musaba then kicked in the setting.

After the final whistle, screams came again from the “boiler”. Spartan players said goodbye only to the fans in the main grandstand, they did not go to the “boiler” for the thank you note. After a while, only Captain Dočkal approached him, trying to appeal to the audience.

Monaco, which will enter Ligue 1 with Friday’s duel with Nantes, also won the second cup match against the Czech opponent. In the 2005/06 season in the UEFA Cup (today’s European League), Slavia also beat 2: 0 on its course.

Sparta did not defeat the French team in the tenth of twelve cup duels (without the Intertoto Cup) and found a winner after three competitive wins in a row.
