Spanish Popular Party wins historic absolute majority in Andalusia

The Spanish Popular Party (PP) won, this Sunday, a historic absolute majority in Andalusia’s regional elections.

The re-elected president of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, has doubled the number of seats compared to 2018. It now has 57, a party record – in 2012, Javier Areas won 50 seats in Parliament.

The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, descends the second political force, in what is its worst result ever in the second largest Spanish region.

Vox, from the extreme right, wins two deputies and becomes the third force in the region, with 14 deputies. Cuidadanos disappears from the regional parliament, after having won 22 seats in 2018.

Regional result with national reading, says PP

The PP president considers this to be a victory with national reading, as it is against Pedro Sánchez’s party.

“Thanks to the Andalusians and congratulations for having chosen the best president. And to all Spaniards, because today the serious, stable, responsible and moderate policy that this country needs wins”, wrote Alberto Núñez Feijóo, on Twitter, after the results.

The president of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, underlined the importance of starting this new stage in the government of the region “with humility”.

“We lost many elections and we always accepted the result. Therefore, we also have to be humble with this resounding victory. I am proud of the Andalusians and that Andalusia will have four years of prosperity. We made history in Andalusia”, he declared.
