Spacemaker changes name to Autodesk Forma

The cloud-based analysis and sketching tool, Spacemaker, which i.a. used by the architecture firm Cobe, changes name. – New functions and competencies are added, says Carl Christensen Autodesk Format.

Data-driven AI tool Spacemaker takes name change to Autodesk Forma.

This happens after the Spacemaker software has been integrated on Autodesk’s platform, where it will henceforth be found in line with other construction software such as Revit and AutoCAD, which are also owned by the tech group.

Forma will now be part of Autodesk’s AEC Collection, meaning existing AEC Collection customers will have immediate access to this.

– We are pleased to bring the next evolution of Spacemaker to the market with Autodesk Forma. Existing customers will experience a smooth transition to Forma and will benefit from newly added features, said Spacemaker co-founder Carl Christensen, who leads Autodesk’s Unified Design group, which will bring together outcomes-based design for the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry in a single platform.

Spacemaker changes name to Autodesk Forma

Autodesk Forma – or formerly Spacemaker – provides a digital tool to streamline the earlier design phases and is used today by several architects and developers in Denmark.

Used by architects and property developers
Spacemaker is a collaboration-based, AI software that allows architects, urban planners and real estate developers to quickly develop and test many different building proposals, e.g. with analyzes of e.g. daylight, sunlight, wind, temperatures and noise as well as area and microclimate.

Spacemaker seriously announced its arrival on the Danish market in 2021.

Among Spacemaker’s first customers were some of the most ambitious property developers in Denmark and general contractors. In addition, many architects have adopted and used Spacemaker to introduce a data-driven way of working to their projects.

‘Only the beginning’
And according to Autodesk Forma, the software will make an even greater positive contribution to the development of new construction projects in Denmark.

– To achieve better results, you must utilize data as early in the construction process as possible. Forma puts data-driven insights into the hands of architects, helping them make decisions as they design to create spaces that work for everyone.

– This is only the beginning. We look forward to the coming years as we continue to expand Forma and rethink BIM in the cloud to connect data, teams and workflows across the entire project lifecycle, says Carl Christensen.

Autodesk acquired Spacemaker, founded in 2016, at the end of 2020. Autodesk is also behind Construction Cloud, which helps contractors plan and project manage construction projects.

With the name change, Forma also makes its software available to all architects who are already AEC Collection customers and already use design programs such as Revit and AutoCAD at Autodesk.
