Sony Xperia 5 IV officially. A small smartphone with a huge battery and a powerful camera

At IFA 20222, Sony showed the new Xperia 5 IV smartphone. It inherits the most important functions from the Xperia 1 IV, but closes them in a much smaller housing.

All previous smartphones from the Xperia 5 line had housings with almost identical dimensions. The Xperia 5 IV is microscopically smaller than its predecessors, yet has the largest battery.

Sony started with 3140 mAh (Xperia 5), then went through 4000 mAh (Xperia 5 II) and 4500 mAh (Xperia 5 III), and finally up to 5000 mAh (Xperia 5 IV). For a smartphone with a 6.1-inch screen, this is a really impressive size.

However, it is not the battery that plays the main role here.

Sony Xperia 5 IV has three cameras with the same set of functions

The longitudinal island on the back of the housing hides:

  • main camera 12 Mpix (1 / 1.7 inch) with 24 mm lens with f / 1.7 brightness and optical image stabilization;
  • 12 Mpix camera (1 / 2.5 inch) with a 16 mm ultra wide angle lens with f / 2.2 brightness;
  • 12 Mpix camera (1 / 3.5 inch) with a periscope 60 mm telephoto lens with f / 2.4 brightness and optical image stabilization.

Recall that the flagship Xperia 1 IV has a telephoto lens with a variable zoom in the range from 3.5x to 5.2x. The smaller Xperia 5 IV, on the other hand, has a fixed telephoto lens with 2.5x optical zoom. The rest of the camera equipment is almost the same.

Sony made sure that all the cameras used had a similar set of functions. All three cameras built into the Xperia 5 IV have:

  • 4K movie recording function at 120 fps;
  • autofocus with real-time tracking mode and focus on the eye;
  • extended tonal range due to multi-frame processing;
  • HDR burst shooting function at 20 fps.

The flagship function is 4K recording in 120 frames with all lenses. This allows you to apply a 5x slowdown of Ultra HD from any camera.

Sony also boasts of using an improved, 12-megapixel front camera, the size of which – compared to the Xperia 5 III – has increased from 1/4 to 1 / 2.9 inches.

Xperia 5 IV is compatible with an external Sony monitor, which is to facilitate vlogging. However, the accessory is sold separately. In addition, the smartphone can act as an external monitor for Sony Alpha cameras.

Sony Xperia 5 IV also brings improved multimedia

On paper, the 6.1-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2520 x 1080 and a refresh rate of 120 Hz looks similar to the previous generation. Sony argues, however, that the Xperia 5 IV panel is 50 percent. brighter to ensure better visibility in bright surroundings.

The manufacturer also boasts of a complete redesign of Dolby Atmos stereo speakers. Despite the slightly smaller dimensions, the new model is supposed to sound noticeably better.

After the Xperia 1 IV, the smartphone inherited the Music Pro function, which is responsible for professional sound recording. The technology used is to remove unwanted noise, simulate the frequency response of Sony condenser microphones and add studio reverberation. When the user records vocals and a guitar track at the same time, the software is supposed to separate the two tracks and allow them to be mixed.

The Xperia 5 IV software was also supposed to be optimized for gaming. Sony boasts of sampling the touch at 240 Hz and recording the game at 120 fps.

Sony Xperia 5 IV has a flagship specification

The new smartphone inherited a significant part of the equipment from the Xperia 1 IV. It includes:

  • ekran OLED 6,1 cala, 2520 x 1080, 449 ppi, 120 Hz;
  • stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos;
  • Snapdragona 8 Gen 1;
  • 8 GB of RAM;
  • 128 GB of data memory;
  • 5G and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. with support for Bluetooth LE Audio;
  • 3.5mm headphone jack;
  • 5000 mAh battery with 30 W wire, wireless and reverse charging;

Sony declares that the Xperia 5 IV battery is to maintain “good condition” for 3 years.
