Sony shows new electric car – and starts car company

Electronics giant Sony is now investigating the possibilities for a commercial launch of an electric car.

Japanese Sony is best known for its cameras, mobile phones and game consoles – but the company also has ambitions to start manufacturing cars. Already in 2020, they showed the concept car Vision-S at the technology fair CES in Las Vegas – but then said that no mass production of the car was relevant.

At this year’s CES show, however, the electronics giant is back with an SUV version of its concept car, called Vision-S 02. And this time, CEO Kenichiro Yoshida says that Sony is investigating the possibilities for a commercial launch.

During his speech at the fair, he also talked about the new subsidiary Sony Mobility, which will focus on developing electric cars.
“With our imaging technology, sensors, cloud services, 5G and entertainment combined with our content expertise, we believe Sony is positioned as a creative entertainment company that can redefine mobility,” said Kenichiro Yoshida.

I want a car from Sony!
