Sony Playstation 5 most popular on Black Friday

Last year, the world came to an end and people began to shop online to a much greater extent. When Sweden in recent months has been without the strictest of restrictions, a trade test came in the form of the sale party Black Friday 2021. Demand, buying behavior and not least warehousing became the question on everyone’s lips.

When Pricerunner compiled its statistics for Black Friday, it appeared that the fears about warehousing came true, especially with regard to electronic products but also larger construction products. In terms of categories with the least stock, doors took the jumbo seat – only 17 percent of all doors listed at retailers were in stock. In other words, it is about just over a sixth.

In addition to doors, there were also garden accessories, conservatories and windows in the top ten of categories with the least stock. For those who are involved in the hardware industry, it comes as no surprise that electronics products, including projector screen, occupy as many as six positions in Pricerunner’s top ten list of categories with the least stock.

The worst affected were desktops, NAS devices, processors and projector screens, where not even half of all listed products were available. For graphics cards that have been in dire shortage for over a year, the figure was at a surprisingly high 50 percent, something that can probably be explained by subdued demand as a result of sky-high prices. For laptops, 52 percent of listed devices were in stock.

Before Black Friday, Pricerunner warned of fake sale prices, where stores probably studied through surreptitious increases and “new” item goods raised prices. To qualify in the top ten of categories with fake sale prices, it is required that goods are increased by at least 10 percent after the summer and then reduced by at least 5 percent to Black Friday.

So far there are no exact statistics, but during this year’s Black Friday, the proportion of sale prices that have been a scam should have been around a quarter. This is in line with Black Friday 2020, where the proportion of false price reductions was 25.3 percent. The worst affected are VR headsets, hobby materials and webcams. Interestingly, it is pointed out that several of the top categories are also on products with the least stock. It can be interpreted as meaning that in many cases it is not a matter of direct fraud, but that many products have justifiably increased in price as a result of demand that has far exceeded supply.

Not everything was pitch black. Black Friday, which from the beginning was on a particular Friday, now lasts for just over a week and is called by many Black Week, something that gives on average lower sale prices than before. Nevertheless, there have been good opportunities to make fine deals. When Pricerunner listed the statistics, prices were compared to where they stood the week before retailers launched their Black Friday campaigns.

The largest price reduction was noticed for Playstation 5 games, which fell by an average of 22.8 percent. Then a blissful mix of product categories is noticed, from sunglasses to hobs and hygiene items. On the electronics front, games for Playstation 5 are followed by Playstation 4 games, which fell in price by 12.6 percent. Studio and lighting fell by 12 percent.

Most popular products

In addition to shopping for products for itself, Black Friday is considered the starting shot for Christmas shopping. Against this background, the most popular category this year was toys, followed by mobile phones, shoes, headphones and in fifth place perfumes. Interestingly, the most popular product is not included in any of the top five categories.

The Swedes’ most popular product was instead Playstation 5, both with and without a disc reader, according to statistics from Pricerunner. This despite the fact that the game consoles were barely in stock or for that matter took part in some reduced prices.
