Sono Motors takes the solar cell car and rolls towards the stock exchange

The German electric car covered by solar cells will be built in Trollhättan. Sono Motors has now applied for an IPO on Nasdaq

Their vision was an electric car powered by the sun, and with the Sion model, Sono Motors has come a long way. Not least considering that the vehicle’s interiors have more in common with conventional small cars than other examples in the solar-powered genre.

According to Sono, the car’s 248 solar cells can best deliver 245 km extra a week, however, with an average of 112 km. This is on top of the battery’s normal range.

In 2019, the Munich-based company signed a contract with Nevs that the factory in Trollhättan would build 260,000 electric cars for Sono. The following year, the Germans reached their goal of raising EUR 50 million in capital.

But the company obviously needs to raise a lot of capital for Sion to be a success, because now Sono Motors GmbH has submitted its application to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on an IPO on the Nasdaq Global Market. The number of shares to be offered or their price has not yet been decided.
