Solar panels in protecting vineyards from climate change

Extremely hot summers and cold winters drastically affect agricultural production and give producers headaches. Many farmers are wondering how to protect crops and enable them to grow unhindered, but also easily take care of them.

The owner of a vineyard located in the southeast of France seems to have found an ideal solution to protect the vines and at the same time use renewable solar energy.

Pierre Escudio has installed solar panels above his vineyard that protect it from frost and heat waves. He decided to take this step due to last year’s weather conditions, which almost destroyed the grape yield, and an additional bonus is the production of electricity.

Solar panels protect the grapes during the winter when the temperatures are very low, while in the summer months they create shade and prevent the warm rays of the sun from falling directly on the vine. In addition, the panels are mounted on special mechanisms that move them, ie. they turn them to allow more light to the vine during cloudy days, world media report.

In addition to protecting the vineyard, solar panels produce enough electricity for about 650 houses located in this area of France.

More and more vineyards want to preserve their vines in this way, which shows the very rapid development of a new technology called agro-energy.

That the use of solar protection panels is not only intended for vineyards is shown by the fact that several companies from Europe are developing similar technologies for different agricultural crops. In the near future, producers of fruits, vegetables and cereals will be able to protect their crops with this unique technology.
