In order to promote the use of renewable energy sources and to point out the necessity of environmental protection, solar benches have been set up at three locations in Kragujevac. The benches placed near “Peron” in the Pedestrian Zone, on the plateau in front of the Second Kragujevac Gymnasium and near the “Chika Daca” stadium have solar panels, smart lighting, but also chargers for mobile phones and laptops. The plan is, as soon as the weather conditions allow, to install the fourth solar bench near the Health Center in the Aerodrom settlement.
– With the financial support of the city of Kragujevac, the prototype of the solar bench was made by students of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences of the University of Kragujevac under the mentorship of professors and older colleagues. Based on the obtained model, the students made solar benches with two seating elements, a solar panel, a charging regulator, a battery in which energy is stored and four USB outputs in CAD software and prepared technical documentation – announced from the City Assembly.
The prototypes of the benches are made of steel, and in order to protect them from corrosion and various weather conditions, they are also plasticized. For lighting during the night, they contain four lighting spaces, and since the solar panel is flush with the seating area, sitting on it is not allowed.
