SOCHIN karate club held international championship IV Latgales Karate WKF in Daugavpils

At the end of last week, on September 5, the international championship IV Latgales Karate WKF was held in Daugavpils, organized by the SOCHIN Karate Club (President Sergey Ivanko), the Latvian Karate Federation (President Leonid Vasiliev) and the Daugavpils Sports Department.

For the first time in the history of Latvia, the karate championship was held in an open area – under a canopy near the Olympic Center. The air temperature this day was only 12 degrees Celsius, so the athletes competed truly in the samurai spirit. True, they were allowed to wear thermal underwear under the kimono.

The deputy of the Daugavpils City Council Mikhail Lavrenov gave instructions to the athletes on behalf of the city government before the start of the championship.

The IV Championship of Latgale was held on two tatami in disciplines – SUMO (wrestling), KATA (demonstration performances) and KUMITE (fights).

The judiciary was represented by the brigade of the Latvian Karate Federation: the chief judge Igor Ponomarenko, and from SOCHIN karate club the judge participated in the work Alisa Ivanko, secretaries Maxim Lindenov and Elina Safronova.

On the scoreboard and in providing categories they helped Anastasia Trofimova, Arina Ivanko and Nikolay Romantsevich, and in preparation and performance, the pupils of the SOCHIN club were helped by two senior students – Robert Bolyasnikov and Dmitry Vazhenin.

Athletes from 14 clubs from Latvia and Lithuania took part in the Championship of Latgale. A total of 148 athletes from Zarasai, Daugavpils, Rezekne, Jelgava, Jurmala, Saulkrasti, Riga, Dobele, Jekabpils, Ogre took part.

In the overall medal standings, the 3rd place was won karate club SAKURA from Rezekne (President Aleksandra Vilczynska).

There were two second places: one “bronze” went ะบ Baltic Karate Club from Riga (President Maxim Ivanchikov), and the second bronze medal – to Jurmala club YOSHUKAN (President Lukyan Sergey).

The next competition for the club’s athletes will be held on October 9 in Saulkrasti as part of the Latvian WKF Championship.
