Some regions are now at such a stage that the strictest form of closed curfew should work there, says health analyst Martin Smatana.
“We don’t know all the details about the proposed testing yet, I take it as a suggestion for debate. I didn’t think it would either be vaccinated or tested. These are not alternatives, either one or the other. Vaccination must still be a priority for us to know , like Israel, to re – vaccinate at – risk groups as a matter of priority, which will significantly improve the number of hospitalizations and deaths.
When it comes to area testing, two approaches are possible. I have often criticized nationwide testing, but under certain conditions, such as inferiority or frequency of testing, along with tough measures, they can help, as we have seen in Orava. The question is, what do we do?
One alternative is based on the assumption that although we have mobile procurement centers and enough PCR tests, we still do not need to know exactly what the situation is in the regions. So first we will test everyone and in the second round only those who have numbers higher than a certain prevalence. Definitely not 0.5 percent, that’s extremely low.
The second option, which is more probable and more appealing to me, is to make a list of all districts according to risk. The ministry is already doing it. The worst ones should be tested extensively together with a curfew if you do not test yourself. Medium-risk districts could be tested voluntarily, such as Trenčín. Other districts only if they want to. I would support this with frequent testing in factories and factories where people often mix.
If testing is organized without thinking, it will also be a compromise from the point of view of staff, who now have to logistically focus on vaccination. If capacities that are not used in area-wide testing focus on compliance, this can really work.
Testing after weeks is important, we saw it in Orava. But it’s not just about testing. Importantly, the region had a hard lockdown. There were soldiers overseeing it. At the same time, there was a strong media presence to make people understand the importance of the measures. Some regions are now at such a stage that the strictest form of closed curfew should work there. If there is a possibility that operations can operate on the condition that people are tested, this is a compromise.
Vaccination and collective immunity is what gets us out of it. The problem at the moment is that we do not yet have enough vaccines. Until they arrive, we have no choice. We will either have a lockdown or we will try to do something about it, “Smatana said.
