Smartphone manufacturers will be obliged to receive an “explicit refusal” from users to install Russian applications

Today, November 26, the government will consider amendments to the rules for preinstalling Russian applications on smartphones, tablets and computers.

According to the changes that RBC got acquainted with, manufacturers will be obliged from March 1, 2022:

▪️ show users a separate window for selecting a search engine, and do not set it by default
▪️ require “explicit refusal” to install Russian applications
▪️ add to the list of applications for reading books that must be preinstalled
▪️ add the ability to remove preinstalled applications

Anton Guskov, a member of the Association of Trade Companies and Manufacturers of Electrical and Computer Equipment, said that it is not known what is meant by “explicit refusal.” However, it is known for sure that the revision will take a lot of time, and the manufacturers will not have time to produce it by March 1 – this will not happen until September.
