Fritzbox owners can count themselves lucky. AVM is continuously expanding the functions of its popular Internet router. This includes, in particular, the possibilities of home networking. The new Fritz-Dect 500 colored lamp can now be used to create lighting moods, and the Fritz-Dect 440 four-way button provides the right control.
There are additional innovations on the software side. The smart home area of the Fritzbox interface has been revised, and with the Fritz Smart Home app there is now a dedicated tool for controlling the networked home.
All owners of a current Fritzbox with a DECT base station benefit from the new functions. DECT is necessary because the components connect via the energy-saving version of the radio standard with the addition of ULE (Ultra Low Energy).
Another requirement for the revised smart home area is an operating system from version FritzOS 7.20. The software update is already available for the Fritzbox models 7590, 7580, 7530, 7490 and 7430, 6591 Cable, 6590 Cable, 6660 Cable and 6490 Cable as well as 6890 LTE and 6850 LTE.
Revised smart home area
FritzOS 7.21 has already been published for the Fritzbox 7590. On this basis, we also want to demonstrate the new smart home functions. To get to the Fritzbox interface, enter http://fritz.box or the IP address of the Fritzbox in the browser (factory setting 192.168.178.1).
After logging in, first activate the “Extended view” using the three dots in the top right corner. Then check if a software update is available. To do this, switch to the update in the menu on the left under System and install the latest version if necessary.
You can get to the Smart Home area by clicking on the menu item of the same name in the menu on the left. The area is subdivided into device management, groups and templates and operation. The teaching and configuration of devices enables device management.
You can also teach-in devices without the Fritzbox interface. To connect the Fritz-Dect 500, first switch off the lamp in which you want to use the networked lamp. After you have screwed this into the socket, switch the power on again. The lamp then begins to glow red to indicate that it is ready to be taught.
Now press the DECT button on your Fritzbox within two minutes until it also switches to registration mode. This can be seen in the Fritzbox 7590 by the flashing Fon / DECT light. After successful teaching, the lamp flashes green twice and then changes to white.
Switch and heat more intelligently
You can connect these smart home components from AVM directly to the Fritzbox.
AVM also uses the DECT ULE radio standard for the smart home devices that are already available. On the one hand, there is the Fritz-Dect 400 button. You can use its button to switch color lamps and adapter plugs and call up templates.
However, it is not possible to dim lamps. There is a Fritz-Dect 301 radiator thermostat (around 45 euros) for heating control, which can be installed in place of the existing rotary control.
AVM offers two versions of switch sockets: Fritz-Dect 200 (around 44 euros) is intended for indoor use, while Fritz-Dect 210 (around 44 euros) can also be used in the garden or bathroom thanks to splash protection. Both are also able to measure the energy consumption of connected devices.
