Slovakia is facing a wave of intense freezing rain and at the same time more heavy snow will arrive. This is a very dangerous weekend ahead of us, he informs iMeteo.sk.
The first precipitation will hit western Slovakia on Saturday afternoon, and since it will be warm in the upper layers and cold on the ground, the liquid precipitation that will fall can freeze on the subcooled surface of the earth.
Freezing rain hits the west
The first freezing precipitation may appear as early as Saturday after 14:00. However, a more pronounced wave of freezing rain awaits western Slovakia at night from Saturday to Sunday. During the night, up to 10 mm of freezing rain can fall on our territory.
“Saturday night will still be extremely cold in Slovakia. Thanks to the influx of cold air and clarification, temperatures will fall below zero throughout the territory and to -10 ° C in the north. In areas where there is currently snow cover, temperatures will fall even lower, even below -15 ° C, “ supplied by iMeteo.sk.
During the night on Sunday and Sunday morning, an extremely dangerous situation awaits western Slovakia, so great care must be taken when traveling. The situation will start to stabilize on Sunday during the day, when temperatures will rise above zero and the ice shell will start to melt.
According to SHMÚ meteorologists, there is a high probability that the temperature in mountain valleys may fall below minus 15 degrees Celsius. The highest probability is in the valleys of Horehronie and Lower Spiš.
A wave of snow is waiting for the rest of Slovakia
While there is a risk of freezing rain in the west, the rest of Slovakia is expected to snow, which can be even heavier.
The snowfall will come in two main waves. One wave arrives at night from Saturday to Sunday and the other wave of snowfall comes on Sunday afternoon.
Rainfall will move over our territory from the southwest and will be brought by another pressure lower, which will move from the Adriatic, through Hungary and our territory to the northeast. Over the weekend, 5 to 10 cm of new snow could fall, in the northwest even more.
