Slovakia will ask for health professionals from abroad – Domestic – News

Ten doctors and 25 nurses from abroad could come to Slovakia to help. The Ministry of Health (MZ) SR asked the government to activate the European Union civil protection mechanism in the context of a deteriorating pandemic situation. The proposal was approved by the government at Wednesday’s meeting.

Healthcare professionals should provide care for patients with COVID-19 in the beds of anesthesiology and intensive care units or intensive care units. In the event of a worsening of the situation, the ministry expects an increase in the number of foreign health professionals.

“The stay of foreign teams that would come to the territory of the Slovak Republic to provide health care would be only for the time necessary to achieve the goal, we preliminarily expect that the length would be one month,” the Ministry of Health states in the material.

In agreement with the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Health should designate institutional health care facilities where foreign teams of doctors and nurses could provide health care to patients with COVID-19.

The Ministry will provide material and technical requirements, including personal protective equipment for members of the foreign team. He declares that he will also provide accommodation and administrative assistance for them.

Minister of Health Marek Krajčí (OĽANO) explained that new mutations in COVID-19 tend to spread faster within the population and cause an increase and demand for the provision of health care in hospitals. State Secretary of the Ministry of Health Peter Stachura added that the biggest problem in the provision of health care is the lack of health professionals who take care of the most demanding patients. “These are highly professional staff who cannot be easily replaced, for example from the outpatient sector,” he said.
