Cars capable of driving at least tens of kilometers on electricity accounted for more than 20% of all newly registered cars in the country in January this year. That’s exactly 21.7 percent.

This follows from recent statistics from the Federal Office for Motor Vehicles KBA. Compared to the situation in the first month of 2020, which has not yet been marked by the coronary crisis, this is a year-on-year increase in sales of electric cars (all pure battery and plug-in hybrid – PHEV) by 129 percent. Both of these car categories more than doubled in sales. The total market for passenger cars fell by almost a third in Germany in January, compared to the same month last year.

Over 16,000 battery electric cars were sold in Germany in January, and 10.5,000 plug-in hybrids.

The most successful brand was Volkswagen, whose dealers handed over 4.5 thousand electric cars and 2.5 thousand PHEV vehicles to customers in January). So a total of 7,000 of these cars.

The largest European carmaker, with a gap of two thousand, is followed by Mercedes-Benz. However, this premium brand, as well as the third BMW and the fourth Audi, are doing significantly better in sales of PHEV cars compared to “clean” electric cars.

The domestic Škoda has already reached the top ten (eighth place) in this statistic. Of the total of 1,564 electric vehicles sold in Germany, 572 were battery and 992 were PHEV.

The damage was more than three times more successful than Tesla, which sold only 453 of its cars in January.

The most popular electric model in Germany in Volkswagen became the Volkswagen ID.3 in January before the Volkswagen e-up!

Last year, Germany was the world’s second largest market for electric cars. China remains the first.
