Seven years after the presentation of the third generation, the Skoda Fabia is completely renewed and does so by changing the construction platform, adopting the MQB-A0 which already acts as a skeleton for other key models of the Volkswagen Group such as the Polo, the Seat Ibiza and Arona and also the Audi A1.

Rational forms and refined aerodynamics
Stylistically, the influence of the latest models of the brand is perceived on the Fabia 2021, on all the Scala and the Kamiq. The classic stylistic features of the range are sharpened and no new ones are introduced. The front headlights have LED technology (full LEDs are also available) while, on the side, the signature of the C-pillar that rises towards the rear window, already present on the previous generation, is inevitable. On the other hand, the ribs that run through the sheet metal are new and give a nice dynamism.
It is in the rear view that you can see the main difference compared to all the previous Fabia: now the lights extend over the tailgate, “breaking” and consequently assuming a more horizontal trend. The Fabia upgrade also involves a general increase in size, especially in length which now reaches an altitude of 4.11 meters (+ 11 cm). The width is 1.78 meters (+ 4.8 cm) and the wheelbase has grown by a good 9.4 cm, reaching 2.26 meters.
What the regular and smooth lines bring with them, in addition to a general harmony of volumes, is a high level aerodynamic efficiency that is also realized thanks to a new spoiler, redesigned mirrors, low resistance alloy wheels and a partly faired underbody, but also with active solutions such as the front slats with automatic opening and closing adjustment of the air intakes. The result is an aerodynamic coefficient among the best in the category, 0.28 Cx.
Smart interiors and navigator up to 9.2 ”
Each new Skoda amazes with the designers’ ability to exploit the interior space and offer many “smart” solutions that simplify life on board. The new Fabia is no exception. Its business card is a trunk that starts from a minimum of 380 liters (+ 50 liters compared to before), a record value for the segment and, indeed, capable of worrying even the compartments of higher-end cars.
To be clear, the everlasting Golf (about 13 cm longer) starts from 380 liters. By folding the seat down, you get to 1,190 liters. The increased wheelbase also gives the rear passengers more space than before.
The passenger compartment reflects the brand’s typical rationality in setting the controls and the dashboard, which has several new details such as the circular air vents. At the center stands the display of the infotainment system, standard 8 “and optionally up to 9.2”, with the most advanced software capable of offering advanced connectivity, wireless compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi module Fi, gesture commands and voice assistant. Also, depending on the version, a 10.25 “digital dashboard is available, while the standard equipment is analog with a 3.5” vertical display. 5 USB-C sockets complete the connectivity equipment.
Depending on the layout, the central decorative strips can be chosen in six variants and ambient lighting in two colors makes its debut. For the first time, the steering wheel can be heated, as well as the windshield, and dual-zone automatic climate control and rear air vents make their appearance.
Obviously, the whole long series of solutions that, like on the other Skodas, make the cockpit of the Fabia “intelligent” cannot be missing. In addition to the umbrella integrated in the door, for example, or the ice scraper positioned inside the fuel flap, the Fabia debuts a clip for tickets and an elastic band in the center console storage, a removable cup holder between the front seats , a position container on the transmission tunnel for rear passengers, a flexible compartment for the trunk and a sun visor for the optional panoramic roof.
Ready for long journeys
The new platform has allowed an increase in the level of safety not only thanks to the greater torsional rigidity of the frame, but also because it has allowed the installation of the most advanced driving assistance systems. An assistance that, in fact, reaches Level 2 with the Travel Assistant which is able to combine adaptive cruise control with active lane maintainer. There is also the maneuvering assistant, who can brake autonomously if he recognizes obstacles, or fully automatic parking.
Engines and versions
We come to the range of engines, which are all Euro 6d. The three-cylinder 1.0 TSI delivers 95 or 110 hp, and in this case it can be combined with the 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The methane version 1.0 MPI is instead available with 65 or 80 HP, i.e. with 5 HP more than before.
Three versions are proposed: Ambition, Style and, at a later stage, the top of the Monte Carlo range. Prices have not yet been formalized. As an indication, those of the previous generation start at just under 16,000 euros.
