Silent partner – Renault Arkana TCe 140 EDC mHybrid test – Car Engine

Hooray, the ratio of touch / physical buttons is still at a healthy level in Arkana! Photo: Balázs Stefler

Time is almost flying, since since the Arkana demo was released, Renault’s domestic offerings include Talisman, Scenic and Espace. By implication, therefore, fewer models need to cover customer needs, which is why the Arkana, which has a seductive look, also has a key role to play – as evidenced by the fact that the brand also counts on it as a family car.

Comfortable seats with passive space in the back. There is, on the other hand, a ventilated and double USB-C charging socket

The new model, like Renault’s compact ones, is based on the CMF-B floor plate, and its character is eerily similar to the high-clearance but high-floor solution of the no longer available Scenic and Espace minivans. As a result, the adults have to fold themselves up a bit when boarding, but the inside is also comfortable to travel, so that despite the SUV recipe, we do not sit in a “chair” but in a seat close to the floor with outstretched legs. The design is familiar, with understandable details and technical solutions, but the display at the head still has an after-effect. At the back, despite the sloping roof arch, the space is adequate, there is no feeling of closure, of course the middle seat is only symbolic here.

Yes, 4 cylinders! Slowly today, you should be happy about that too…

Instead of the usual test program, we tried to map Arkana with a long-distance trip. An approx. A 1,200-kilometer tour of Germany, 2 adults, 2 children (7 and 2 years old), plus the necessary belongings for a few days filled the passenger and luggage compartment. In the case of about 80% of motorway use, the low noise level deserved special praise, which greatly increases the feeling of comfort when traveling with children. Tempered with fine air conditioning, the cabin air can be moved efficiently, various storage compartments and compartments can be used well (eg luggage compartment floor drawer, mother seat foot net).

A lot of small things come in handy with a drawer under the floor tile

The weaker version of the 1.3 turbo engine is an almost imperceptible partner for cruising, with 140 horsepower absolutely enough to drive under normal conditions. Fortunately, the 7-speed, dual-clutch EDC transmission doesn’t have much to do on the road, but it might be better because, for example, in a city or just on hilly sections, it shifts a bit slowly, uncertainly. It does not jerk and there are no sharp torque steps either, it is much more hesitant, in Hungarian the highway is good for it… The 7.4 liter consumption is approx. it is more than acceptable depending on the load and speed of two-thirds, and although it is far from the value specified by the factory, the average of around 6.0 liters / 100 km can certainly be approached with more frequent road use.

SUV coupe serving is fashionable and expensive at the same time, the suspension could be a little softer

SUMMARY
In a fashionable segment, Arkana, which is the pioneering SUV coupe among non-premium products, is fighting for the graces of its customers. With young children, it still plays the role of a family car, but much more like a car for 2 adults. Equipped with a similar engine but a 6-speed manual transmission, the base price of the Megane is 2.1 million cheaper, which is quite thought-provoking.
