Siemens presents the SINAMICS S200 servo

SINAMICS S200 servo-drive system-2321At the Automate 2023 trade show, Siemens presented its latest offering of servo drives for the North American manufacturing industry. With the new Sinamics S200 servo drive, which consists of a Sinamics S200 drive and a Simotics S-1FL2 motor with standard or flexible cabling, Siemens brings a new level of motion control to the stand-alone and network machine market.

This new servo drive expands the range of Sinamics drives in the standard servo drive market with a range of application options. The pulse control version allows a wide range of installed machines to easily integrate an additional positioning axis using the built-in positioner. Meanwhile, the possibility of dynamic connection with motion control, i.e. with PLC Simatic, expands its system capabilities in the Profinet version. 1FL2 permanent magnet motors with 17-bit or 21-bit encoders extend the power and scale for the widest range of standard servo control requirements with a power range up to 7 kW including low, medium and high inertia offerings.

Easy setup is provided by the electronic nameplate on the 1FL2 motor and one-button tuning on the S200 drive. The function of the S200 servo drive is complemented by an integrated brake resistor and an integrated holding brake control. High durability is designed thanks to the coated circuit boards (3C2) in the S200 drive and motors with IP65 protection and metal connection solution. A built-in undervoltage protection is also available.

For integration into the system of the machine manufacturer or user, an embedded web server or Startdrive software integrated into the Siemens TIA Portal is offered, which meets the user’s requirements. Easy implementation of the Sinamics S200 drive system into machines intended for worldwide use is ensured by universal standards and compliance with certification.

Sinamics S200 is part of the model Sinamics DriveSim Basic and allows users to create a digital twin of drive and PLC communication at the project planning stage to ensure proper sizing and operation of the equipment being used.

In the area of cyber security, the Sinamics S200 for network connectivity is equipped as standard with integrated security that ensures extended communication, integrity and authenticity checks to protect against unauthorized manipulation of parameters, and in addition, the drives offer user management and access control (UMAC) within the TIA portal.

Applications for the new Sinamics S200 drive system range from the emerging battery market and other E-OEM segments to packaging, woodworking machinery, solar wafer manufacturing and many others.
