Shot macro on iPhone 13 mini. It turned out very cool

Recently talked about the app Halidewhich allows you to take photos in macro mode on all iPhones with the Neural Engine chip. While the trial period is in effect, I decided to test it in more detail in the open air and see what happens.

Macro

In natural daylight, an interesting result comes out. Despite the help of neural networks and machine learning algorithms in shooting, photographs are obtained with a good level of detail in the focus areas, and a pleasant blur along the Halide contour.

Macro

I decided not to use any filters in order to reproduce the color reproduction as faithfully as possible. Nevertheless, I slightly adjusted some parameters of the pictures in the built-in editor of the “Photos” application.

Macro

Mostly in post-processing, I added Saturation and Vividness within 5 pips. I added the “Shine” parameter to some frames without going beyond the +10 line. I also darkened the edges of all images a little using the Vignette option, not exceeding 20 points to keep it natural.

Macro

Overall Halide produces interesting macro results. With natural light, the camera focuses on the subject very quickly. Regardless, I recommend setting the focus point manually to avoid misses and unnecessary blur.

Our site compresses photos, originals can be taken here.

Let me remind you that to shoot in macro mode, open the Halide camera, press the AF button, and then press the button with the flower image. Now move the viewfinder over the desired object and set the focal point with your finger.

Halide

Whether you want to subscribe to or purchase Halide is up to you. At the very least, you can use the trial period and play with the macro mode. Just remember to cancel your subscription to avoid unnecessary charges. The shooting result does not reach the level of the iPhone 13 Pro, but it is important to understand that the macro mode in Halide is implemented at the software level and it makes no sense to compare it with the hardware.
