“Shipyard workers thought they were indestructible,” recalls novelist Christian Astolfi

The New Factory. – On the cover of your book “From our swept away world” published by Le Bruit du Monde, it is mentioned “novel”, but the text seems to be written by someone who knows this environment very well. Is it a disguised autobiographical account or the work of a well-documented novelist?
Christian Astolfi : I worked in this environment, where I was an apprentice. My experience helped me to describe the gestures of the workers, gestures that I have for some accomplished daily at a time of my life. I was at the shipyards in Toulon, where the boats were being repaired, while the novel takes place in La Seyne-sur-Mer. I preferred this place because the city, smaller, is more in osmosis with its industry. La Seyne is more concentrated, the place once occupied by the shipyard is relatively more important. It was the first employer in the city, there was a lot of pride in working there. Imagine, the shipyard had been there for over a century. It seemed eternal.

This is your fourth novel. How was he born?
