She has given hand to the pope and scolded the world leaders. Now she gets her own stamp

She has shaken hands with the pope, speaking at political summits, and now Greta Thunberg is also coming on a stamp. The stamp is part of a series with the theme nature and environment, and Thunberg, who recently turned 18, is portrayed on the stamp standing on a cliff top, where she is watching a bird.

It is the graphic designer Henning Trollbäck who designed the stamp. The Swedish postal service, PostNord, says that Greta Thunberg, with her voice in the climate debate, has earned herself a stamp.

“The design must reflect our time and the environmental problems that have been highlighted for years, not least through Greta Thunberg’s strong voice,” says Stina Olofsdotter, head of PostNord’s stamp department, according to the news agency dpa.

Thunberg was only 15 years old when she began taking a weekly day off from school to demonstrate for the climate – inspired by young Americans protesting U.S. gun laws. Alone and wearing a yellow rain jacket, she sat in front of the Swedish parliament with a poster with the caption ‘School strike for the climate’.

A lot has happened since then.

Greta Thunberg has held meetings with and in full public condemned the world leaders for their inability to act on the climate crisis. As she said, “Where do you dare?”

She has even been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and named Person of the Year by Time Magazine. She did so in 2018, when she also appeared on the podium at the UN climate conference in Poland.

The stamp in the series ‘Värdefull natur’ was issued last week.
