Desk Report: In Noakhali’s Dwip Upazila Hatiyar Chairman Ghat, a 5 maund fish was sold for Tk 40,000. On Wednesday afternoon, the fish was sold to the chairman of the upazila’s Harani union at the fish market.

It is known that when Yusuf Majhi went fishing in the Bay of Bengal, he caught a mullet weighing 5 maunds in his net. On Wednesday afternoon, he took the fish to the Chairman Ghat fish market for sale. Karim bought the fish at the auction for 40,000 taka. Local enthusiasts thronged to catch a glimpse of the fish.

Elias Mamun, a local resident, said that the size of the fish is so big that people have gathered to see it. The auction price rose to 40 thousand rupees.

Yusuf Majhi said, if you go fishing in the sea, sometimes you can find some flatfish. But this is the first time such a big fish was caught in my net. I sold the fish for 40 thousand taka to Karim Bepari of Chairman Ghat.

General Secretary of Hatia Upazila Fishermen’s Association. Ismail Hossain said, 5 maunds of fish were sold for 40,000 takas at 8,000 takas to Karim Babiri.

District Fisheries Officer Mohammad Iqbal Hossain said, this rare species of sea fish is locally called house fish but its name is ray fin fish or sting fish. But it is also known as Shaplapata fish. The fish is found in the sea. The fish is in demand in the market.
