I honestly don’t understand why Marvel doesn’t take rights management at Sony more seriously. It took several unsuccessful Spiderman films for Kevin Feige and his team to engage Peter Parker in the Marvel universe, before Sony responded with Spider-Man: Going to the PokerSeries! When we thought the company really understood what fans needed, we got the Venom sequel … and now the Morbius. It is always a very bad omen to constantly postpone the presentation of a movie. And even worse, the script is written by the unknown Dracula, the last witch-hunter, and the gods of Egypt. However, the film was released in cinemas this week and although relatively many people went to it in the first round, it is likely that Sony will be able to post another setback.
Yet the first half hour starts quite encouragingly. Michael Morbius and his friend Milo suffer from a rare blood disorder and have not improved since adulthood. The former is a genius, an artist developed thanks to his knowledge has already saved the lives of thousands of people and will eventually be able to heal himself with an agent developed with the help of vampire bats. But it also comes at a price: hunger.
Let’s start with the good things: Jared Leto gives it his all, as we would expect from him anyway. And that’s how the positives about Morbius were exhausted. This is because the scenario is patchy. The plot is so incoherent that we don’t really understand when it happens. Not to mention that after the drug is administered, the doc is already able to use almost all of his abilities, but no one is surprised that a vampire is flying around their city.
Cops also treat with as much naturalness as possible that all blood disappears from the corpses and a doctor flies around the city. There is no development in the character of Milo, who has been designated the main enemy. From one moment to the next, the unfortunate patient becomes a mad killer. There’s no explanation for why he does all this, he hasn’t shown the slightest sign of madness before, as he is a millionaire.
At least in the Sony movies, the clashes have looked somehow so far, but unfortunately in Morbius, even these have completely gone astray. Maybe the first is still quite tolerable, but after that the rest is almost barely visible. Plus, it’s not just the dark that causes the problem, it’s the special effects. The movie looks really bad, it can’t even grow to the level of Venom 2.
The final blow is given by the extra scenes at the end of the film, which again turned out to be quite amazingly silly. Probably most people already know what’s going on and who will be the pop-up character. So the creation of a common universe is starting again, but it may not have a good ending. After Venom 2, Morbius is bleeding and so we are very afraid of what Kraven, the hunter, will offer. 2/10
