Despite the trial and charges of a felony against public safety, Milovanovic in July 2020, three years after the deaths of two workers, re-elected factory director.
“I am convinced that this will last as long the Topchider case (when two guardsmen were killed in the barracks in Belgrade in 2004) and like other cases where there are state companies, where the state is behind all this – behind this factory, behind the director is the state, it is an obvious thing and I have seen it many times “, said the father of the killed worker Milovan Milivojevic for H1 on the fourth anniversary of the tragedy for H1.
He then said that the director was “in his late years” (78) and that everything was leading him to “not wait for the end of the trial”.
“But as far as I can see, I will not welcome him. But I told my daughter to drive this to the end, I swore not to sell her brother, to drive her to the end, to the European Court of Justice to Strasbourg.
“All the evidence, everything is in our hands,” Milivojevic said at the time.
Two years after the accident at the factory, family members spoke with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, asking for help in shedding light on the case.
The family told H1 after the meeting that the President of Serbia promised them that “in a few days” the case would be moved from the deadlock.
“I expect and hope, I have addressed the president now as a parent to a parent. I said: You are currently the president, it is not known how long you will be there, until when the people will want you, but I am addressing you as a parent.
“Two years since my son died, it will be July 14, then I will be at the cemetery, after that my wife and I will come here.
“If nothing is done by then, we will be there until we die or until we get justice,” Milovan Milivojevic said at the time.
