SENAT Gallery – the newest exhibition space dedicated to creative industries continues its projects in 2021

SENAT Gallery – acronym for Unconventional Exhibition Space for Art and Technology – was founded in 2019 by the reconversion of an industrial hall, a vestige of the socialist era. The former Foundry of the Plastic Fund Plant in Bucharest, where the large-scale monuments and statues from Romania of the ’60s and’ 90s were born, was transformed into a unique, vibrant and modern exhibition project, but keeping the equipment and the specific industrial character .

The SENAT Gallery represents an important step in bringing to life an ambitious plan of the contemporary artistic community. The plan initiated by the Union of Visual Artists in Romania, discussed and designed in collaboration with local authorities, is to transform this area with a strong artistic history into a true creative park in Bucharest, including art and design exhibitions, creative workshops of artists and outdoor spaces ideal for unconventional or recreational cultural events.

“We discovered in the spring of 2019 the space of the former Foundry within CFP, in a state of almost total disintegration. We found out about the UAP project and saw a potential of the area and location that made us get involved with love and After 3 months of construction, our location shows and proves with each hosted event that it is a step forward for the entire exhibition scene. We are proud that the main large statues in Bucharest and in the country were built here, so we have “We considered that we can happily combine, with the help of the architect Elena Viziteu, the ultra-present industrial design in CFP with the emotions generated by the events we want to host.” Emil Ionel (Managing Partner SENAT).

The SENAT gallery has adapted to the new realities and, at the beginning of 2021, hosted a series of online events. This year will continue the collaboration with The Institute for Romanian Design Week and Diploma, and the long-term ambition is for this space to become a stage for Romanian artistic expression at the level of any European capital. The partner projects support the gallery’s ambition to become a pole of interest for the creative industries, an ‘agora’ or a SENATE for the art-conscious public and young people connected to new trends in artistic expression through technology.

In general, we aim to bring together several art-loving “communities” by hosting exhibitions of painting, sculpture, design, art installations, technology, unconventional or recreational cultural events or manifestations. We have the ambition to become a reference scene in the Romanian artistic life, both from an architectural point of view and as event management, through our own efforts, but also through collaborations with valuable partners such as the Union of Fine Artists, The Institute, Artmark, other galleries private and a number of associations and NGOs involved in the artistic area ”.

Among the events hosted so far by the SENATE gallery are:

  • National Salon of Contemporary Art, 2019 and 2020 editions
  • the exhibition “A Different Perspective” by the young artist Ilinca Gruia
  • the event “The Time is Now” – a manifesto for the future of Bucharest, organized by the NGO ARCEN
