Seagate Gives External SSD for Xbox Consoles New Look

We recently wrote that Seagate was working on an external SSD for the Xbox Series S and X that had a storage capacity of 512 GB. It had to be a lot cheaper than the 1TB version that the brand has been offering for a while. Seagate has now unveiled a similar SSD for Xbox consoles, although it is not a Storage Expansion Card.

To be precise, it is a 1 TB Game Drive SSD. In the press release the manufacturer writes that it uses a usb 3.1 gen 1 connection (with a micro-b to type-a cable), and therefore not the custom cfexpress implementation that the storage expansion card uses. Seagate therefore mentions interoperability as an important feature, and this SSD can also handle all Xbox One consoles in addition to the Xbox Series S and X. So you can play the saved games with all these consoles, although you must actually be the owner of the games that are on the external ssd when logging into Xbox Live.

Compared to the existing version, it has a new appearance, because it is equipped with an LED strip with Xbox green color. It is probably also slightly changed under the hood, but it is not clear what the changes to, for example, the flash memory exactly are.

It comes with a five-year warranty, and you also get a three-year data recovery warranty. From this month, it should be available for 170 euros (1 TB). It is not clear whether other capacities will become available.
