Schiphol has more than made up for the shortage of security guards | Economy

Schiphol processed approximately 1.1 million departing passengers during the May holiday. That did not lead to major problems because a thousand new security guards were hired.

Last year, Schiphol had to deal with long queues due to a lack of staff. The airport eventually decided to limit the number of departing travelers from the summer in order to better process the people who were able to fly. At the time, the problems led to CEO Dick Benschop resigning.

“But the shortage of eight hundred security guards has now been largely made up. Recruitment is continuing, because we are also dealing with an outflow of people,” says a spokesperson.

Schiphol cannot yet say anything about the crowds for the coming summer months. “It’s too early for that. Many people still have to book their holidays. But we expect to be able to run at full capacity.”
