Munich – German football representative Leroy Sané has closed the expected transfer from Manchester City to Bayern Munich. The 24-year-old offensive midfielder, who is returning to the Bundesliga after four years, signed a five-year contract at the championship club until June 2025. He should move to Munich from England as early as next week and begin preparations for the new season.
Bayern did not disclose the transfer amount, but according to the media, Saný’s arrival was much cheaper than it would have been a year ago. At that time, there was speculation about a severance pay of 100 million euros or more, but the transfer eventually failed after Sané broke his neck in his knee. Now the Bavarian big club allegedly paid 50 million euros (1.3 billion crowns).
“He is an amazing player who has repeatedly proven his qualities in recent years, especially in the national team. Our goal is to bring together the best German footballers in Bayern, and this only underscores Sané’s involvement,” said Bayern CEO Hein-Rumz Rummenigge.
“Bayern is a real big club and has big goals – and I like them too,” said Sané, who first hit the field last week in a league match between City and Burnley after an injury last year. “I want to win with Bayern as many titles as possible, and the Champions League is at the top,” he added.
