Samsung Accelerates Connected Life by Incorporating SmartThings Technology Into Its Devices

Samsung Electronics Ltd., Co. revealed more details about the integration of SmartThings Hub software in selected models of Samsung smart TVs, Smart Monitors and Family Hub refrigerators. Samsung SmartThings is the leading technology that facilitates connected life and shapes the future of the Internet of Things (IoT). At CES 2022, Samsung announced that SmartThings Hub software will offer seamless connectivity and control of Samsung devices. Samsung’s new connected lifestyles are becoming available to tens of millions of homes and consumers can now easily turn their home into a smart home.

Consumers are more willing than ever to integrate connected experiences into their homes, contributing to the rapid growth and mass adoption of this technology by industry. According to the “Connectivity and Mobile Trends Survey”[1] for Deloitte for the year 2021, US households have an average of 25 connected devices with their users giving increasing priority to ease of use, interoperability and cost savings when making a purchase decision.

“Until now, consumers have relied on specific control hubs for the connectivity of their devices,” said Mark Benson, head of the Samsung SmartThings Product and Engineering team. “By integrating SmartThings Hub technology into selected Samsung products, we overcome the barrier of entry and facilitate the connectivity process, so that consumers can create the connected home of their dreams.”

With billions of devices already compatible with SmartThings’ rich partner ecosystem and future support for Matter, the innovative smart home interoperability standard, SmartThings is at the heart of creating a single connected home experience.

The integration of SmartThings Hub enables users to make the most of their Samsung devices, utilizing various smart home communication protocols. In addition to Matter, the built-in software will support Wi-Fi or Ethernet connectivity, which will allow communication between a wider range of smart devices. In addition, connectivity to Zigbee devices will also be possible through an optional USB accessory.

“SmartThings’s mission is to create experiences that can make people’s lives better. “To accomplish this mission, we have doubled the improvement in SmartThings technology and this is the next step in Samsung’s vision to have every home connected,” said Jaeyeon Jung, Samsung Electronics Vice President and Head of SmartThings. “With the size of Samsung’s portfolio and the open, versatile and flexible platform offered by SmartThings, we are able to meet the growing demand that has been created since the beginning of the pandemic for connected home appliances.”

SmartThings Hub features will be available on selected Samsung products throughout 2022. For more information on SmartThings, visit news.samsung.com/global/samsung-accelerates-connected-living-adoption-by-integrating-smartthings-technology-into-samsung-devices.
