Sales of smartphones fell by 2 times (MTS published reports). Other operators confirmed lower demand

Smartphone sales in carrier retail stores halved in the second quarter, writes Kommersant.

MTS’s revenue from this direction decreased by 47% to 7.9 billion rubles, in Tele2 – by 12%. Vimpelcom confirmed the downward trend in sales.

MTS President Vyacheslav Nikolaev said that the company has stopped access to a certain number of goods, so some goods have risen in price.

Tele2 confirmed that prices were rising due to supply shortages.

Prices rose against the backdrop of supply shortages, fluctuations in rates and general uncertainty, the company explained.

Tele2 also noted that the decrease in revenue is due to a decrease in customer demand in the second quarter.

Despite the decline in sales, operators are not yet going to massively close stores. In MTS, the number of stores increased by 1.5% year-on-year, to 5.4 thousand. In Tele2, the number of outlets decreased by 2%. The operator plans in the coming years to “fix retail in the current volume” – 2.7 thousand stores. [Коммерсантъ]
