The management of Saleh Steel Industries Limited of Chittagong’s Nasirabad industrial area promised to operate the factory in an environmentally friendly manner. In the month of October 2022, the owner of this institution gave a written bond in this regard to a mobile court of the district administration. But they did not obey any condition of that bond. Rather, the factory was emitting highly polluting fumes. As a result, residents of the surrounding residential areas, students of educational institutions and local residents complained to the district administration against this institution.

In view of these allegations, on Monday (May 15) afternoon, a mobile court of the Chittagong district administration sealed the factory with a fine of 5 lakh taka. In addition, the Magistrate of the mobile court also ordered to close the factory until the production system is ensured in an environmentally friendly manner. Masud Rana.

At that time, Monir Hossain, inspector of the Department of Environment, assisting the court on mobile, termed the factory as a threat to the environment and filed a written complaint with the magistrate. Only then this order was given against this organization that is destroying the environment.

Magistrate Md. Masud Rana said that the local residents have been complaining to the Deputy Commissioner against this factory for a long time. On his orders, the factory was warned and fined by a mobile court in October last year. At that time, the factory authorities provide a guarantee that they will run the production activities in an environmentally friendly manner. But again they continue to spread black smoke in the open air. Students of local educational institutions and residents are at risk of health. As a result of that, this mobile court was run.

Directorate of Environment, Electricity Department and CMP assisted in this mobile court which was run under the strict instructions of Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman.
